Greater depths are achievable depending on ground conditions, access and the spoil being removed - if you've got a deep dig in mind, tell us the details and we'll confirm what's realistic before we mobilise.
- Can vacuum excavation be used around live services?
- Yes - that's exactly where it earns its keep. Because suction removes the ground rather than a blade or bucket cutting through it, we can excavate right up to live gas, power, water and telecoms without the mechanical risk of a strike. It's the safe way to work where services can't be isolated, and it supports HSG47 safe-digging practice.
- Is vacuum excavation suitable for highways projects?
- It is, and it's widely used on carriageways and verges. The small, controlled excavation footprint means less disruption to traffic management, quicker reinstatement under NRSWA, and reduced risk around the dense mix of services usually found under a road.
- What is the difference between potholing and vacuum excavation?
- Vacuum excavation is the method - using high-powered suction to remove spoil. Potholing is one of the jobs that method is used for: digging a small, targeted hole to confirm the exact position and depth of a specific buried service. In other words, we use vacuum excavation to dig potholes, trial holes, trenches and more.
